Ed Natiya Blog - Artist creating Sculpture and Painting in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico gallery - Southwest and Western art

Art inspires HUGE Art!

The other day as I was checking out comments left on my blog, I came across a very interesting note left from a Mr. Bovenduer from Holland. Notice what it said:

“Dear mr. Natiya,

Last friday there was a flower-corso in Sint Jansklooster (Holland). Perhaps your not familliar with the concept of a corso: it is like a carnaval parade only in this parade the designs are covered with thousends and thousends of dahlia’s (small round flowers). I am a member of one of the participating groups. We were browsing the web when we bumped into your amazing work. We had pretty much the same idea when we were brainstorming over a theme of an hunter covered with a wolf but we couldn’t make a model better and in a more dramatic pose than your creation of ‘the legend of the shadowhunter’. In short: we got inspired by one of your designs: the legend of the shadowhunter. Of course we gave it our own touch, nevertheless, the legend of the shadowhunter was recreated on a huge scale: 20 meters long, 10 meters in hight and 5,5 width and of course: covered with 300.000 Dahlia’s (flowers) in al kind of colours and participated in the flowercorso with huge succes! If you are interested in our recreation please send me an e-mail and I will show you pictures, movies, etc. From the otherside of the ocean we want to thank you for your inspiring work.”

So this is what ‘Shadow Hunter’ inspired half-way across the globe!

What an impressive feat of creation!!!  As an artist, It is always exciting to see how your work might inspire the creative juices in others.  The amount of work is mind boggling and the scale is massive!  All I can say to Mr. Bovendeur and his team is “Bravo!”  Beauty and creativity at its finest.  I am honored that my work inspired such a wonderful translation.  Mr. Bovendeur informed me that their float won 1st prize!  For those interested in seeing more here is a link to their webpage: www.corsogroepolympia.nl

Here is a link to video if your interested. There’s some commercials to start, then skip ahead about 11 minutes. http://www.rtvoost.nl/tv/default.aspx?uid=168981

So as Artists, continue to inspire and be inspired!

“Chiefs of the Wind” Now in Bronze!

How exciting it is for me to introduce one of my most special Bronze sculptures!
Chiefs of the Wind- Artist Patina

Chiefs of the Wind- Artist Patina

This is definitely a signature piece for me.  Originally, this bold meeting of the two ’Chiefs’ was offered for purchase in pre-cast last year at Huey’s Fine Art in Santa Fe.  It’s always wonderful to finally see the culmination of 9 months of hardwork.  This, of course, is the study size, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s small!  The piece itself measures 48 inches tall and has a maximum depth of 30 inches.  It is a Bronze edition of 20.  Last year in pre-cast we sold 9 of these beautiful pieces.  This year, even while it was being molded and cast, we sold a few more!  I have a feeling the rest of the edition will sell out fast now that the Bronze casting and Patina work are complete.  We are right now filling our orders, and by June we should have a Bronze available to see at Huey’s Fine Art in Santa Fe.  I hope you will come see this extrordinary piece for yourself.  Once again, I sincerely thank all my clients and collectors for their continued support!

Below are additional shots of the patina as it was being completed, and a few additional photos of the final piece as well.   Also check out my latest youtube video “Chiefs of the Wind”.

Actors and Artists in Santa Fe!

Channing Tatum and Ed Natiya

Channing Tatum and Ed Natiya

As I was sculpting in Hueys Fine Art this past weekend, I noticed a very familiar face. To my surprise, I recogonized that I was looking at ChanningTatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum.  They were quite intrigued by my sculptures and Channing was very interested in sculpting himself.  We talked quite a bit about sculpting and they were particularly fond of the life sized “Forever One” which had already begun the molding process.  For anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting and conversing with the Tatums, I’m sure they would agree that they are very comfortable to be around and just a delight to meet.

Currently, Channing Tatum is finishing his work on the new film “Knockout” in Santa Fe.  You may recogonize him in other successful movies such as “Dear John”, “GI Joe”, ”Fighting”, “Step Up” and “She’s the Man”.  As an artist myself, it’s always nice to meet talented artists within other fields of The Arts.  Thank you Channing and Jenna for taking the time to stop by Hueys Fine Art

Study size “Forever One” Shipped

Hello Everyone,

All the pre-cast orders of  the study size of “Forever One” have been shipped!  Now don’t confuse the study size with the life size sculpture, the larger one is only beginning to be cast.  But, as a result of many clients receiving their bronze, Hueys Fine Art and I have received some nice compliments and words of appreciation.  We like happy collectors!  We thought it would be nice to share a couple of e-mails we have gotten. I would like to thank all my clients for their kind thoughts and continued support!

Keith,

I wanted to thank you for answering all the questions I had while waiting for Forever One Bronze Statue. I want to extend my compliments to the artist, It is a beautiful piece of Art.  It was just  by accident that my wife and I discovered your Art gallery.  The Forever One Bronze Statue became the piece we wanted.  Ed Natiya has done a beautiful job with this piece.  The patina and everything about this piece of Art has exceeded our expectations.  We have had many compliments on the Forever One Bronze Statue.  I have included attachments of pictures.  Thank you!      Sincerely, Clyde

Hi Ed,

We just wanted to drop you a note to say we’ve received our Forever One bronze, and we are incredibly thrilled with it.  It fits beautifully in our home, and we have positioned it as a highlight in our great room.  The patina is perfect, and it has exceeded our expectations.  Congratulations on creating such a beautiful piece, it absolutely speaks to us!  Thank you very much! Dave and Judit

‘Chiefs of the Wind’ 12′ Monument

How exciting it is for me to start working on my next great project! At Hueys Fine Art in Santa Fe, you are all welcome to come in and watch as I begin creating one of my most incredible large works to date.  This past year, I have had overwhelming response and appreciation for my 50″ H x 30″ W x 20″ D sculpture entitled, ‘Chiefs of the Wind’. It truly is one of my greatest sculptures. Now, over the course of a year, I will work to recreate this same piece in a 12′ Tall Monument Size. Below are just a few pictures of it’s humble beginnings. From basic welded metal armature, to added aluminum wire armature, and then aluminum foil filler. As I begin adding clay, I will post more pictures. Hope you enjoy & keep sculpting! Ed.

Ed Natiya at Foundry in Chinlee, Arizona

"Hi Ed! Hope you had a safe return to ABQ Saturday. Miss Julie and I made it back to DFW this morning. We had a great trip! Thanks so much for letting us participate in the process at the foundry. Including yourself, you have a great team there! I want to make sure you get a copy of the pictures from Saturday. There are some good ones, and we also managed to get a few shots of fortress rock from the rim Sunday on the way up to Monument Valley. Really interesting stuff. We traversed east a little from the antelope lookout point to get a side view of fortress. The tip that faces junction is lower than the top of fortress by a little more than I thought. Thanks again, Ben PS - I plan to send a few more pics and a link to the long walk story I mentioned."
