Commissioned Mural for one of my sculptures

Hi everyone,

Sometimes I have clients ask me to create a mural for the sculpture backdrop. This is one example of a mural I did recently for my “To Chase a Dream By Moonlight” sculpture. The purpose was to have the mural provide a complementary backdrop that harmonizes, not only with the theme, but also the prevailing landscape around the clients home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

I started the process by creating a thumbnail painting of the general idea that would fit the space. Of course, the client always has final say, but they trust me enough to make many of the design decisions. I had to keep in mind the colors used in the homes decór. While this many times can limit the creative process, in this case, because the mural would be in a set back in the wall at the entrance, I had a bit of latitude. However, my clients were exceptional in their willingness to provide valuable and insightful input both before and during the process. I appreciated that.

I always try to listen first to the needs of my clients. After all, they are the ones who will have to see the mural day after day, and I want them to be happy.

Below I have included some of the photos of the process. If you would like to have me do a mural for you, whether you have a sculpture of mine or not, please contact me through this blog.
