‘Chiefs of the Wind’ 12′ Monument

How exciting it is for me to start working on my next great project! At Hueys Fine Art in Santa Fe, you are all welcome to come in and watch as I begin creating one of my most incredible large works to date.  This past year, I have had overwhelming response and appreciation for my 50″ H x 30″ W x 20″ D sculpture entitled, ‘Chiefs of the Wind’. It truly is one of my greatest sculptures. Now, over the course of a year, I will work to recreate this same piece in a 12′ Tall Monument Size. Below are just a few pictures of it’s humble beginnings. From basic welded metal armature, to added aluminum wire armature, and then aluminum foil filler. As I begin adding clay, I will post more pictures. Hope you enjoy & keep sculpting! Ed.

Ed Natiya at Foundry in Chinlee, Arizona

"Hi Ed! Hope you had a safe return to ABQ Saturday. Miss Julie and I made it back to DFW this morning. We had a great trip! Thanks so much for letting us participate in the process at the foundry. Including yourself, you have a great team there! I want to make sure you get a copy of the pictures from Saturday. There are some good ones, and we also managed to get a few shots of fortress rock from the rim Sunday on the way up to Monument Valley. Really interesting stuff. We traversed east a little from the antelope lookout point to get a side view of fortress. The tip that faces junction is lower than the top of fortress by a little more than I thought. Thanks again, Ben PS - I plan to send a few more pics and a link to the long walk story I mentioned."

Commissioned Painting

This is a preparatory sketch used to figure out roughly my composition for a commissioned painting measuring 52″ by 36″ vertically.  As you can see I figure out my measurements first and then begin to grid my design for transfer to my canvas.

Native American Still Life Painting

Hello everyone,
I thought I would share with you the process of painting a recent 24″ by 36″ Southwestern still life.  Here in the first image you will notice I am just looking to get the canvas completely covered with basic tones. I am working in acrylic here so speed is essential because of the quick drying time. You will notice I keep a spray bottle handy to spritz my canvas and my palette if necessary.

‘Forever One’ pre-cast - Step by Step Process

Clay is the medium I sculpt in to arrive with a finished piece, which is then molded and cast in bronze. However there is a lot to the beginnings of each piece, even before bronze casting. below I have added the stages in between from it’s armature beginnings: LEFT to the near finished clay sculpture: RIGHT.
